Saving Hooded and Oily Eyelids One Day at a Time
Greetings Beauty Junkies!
Today’s review is going to on this item I consider to be a hero product.
NARS Pro-Prime Smudge Proof Eyeshadow Base is a true saviour for hooded and oily eyelids.
I will say at this point that I have never tried any other primers that are specifically created for the eyes. Urban Decay products are unfortunately not available in Japan (I know, right?) and I try to avoid online shopping as much as I can – I feel like it’s a slippery and very dangerous slope!
This is a product that I can easily pick up here, at any NARS counter.
Of course it retails for a higher price here than in other countries (yeah, one of the not so great parts of living in Japan) but a little goes a really long way and I’ve had mine for ages. Plus I only use it when I really know I need my makeup to either last until the evening or look fabulous for a special event.
I believe that I tried it out after seeing Lisa Eldridge use it in one of her videos, and I loved it from day one.
My eyes are hooded and a bit oily. This is not a good combination.
It basically means that any eyeshadow creases eventually. Whether it is a powder product or those Maybelline 24 Hour Tattoo cream shadows (which I adore by the way). So on its own, eye makeup doesn’t really last on me. It’s true there are greater problems in the world, but it’s nice when such a simple solution can be found, isn’t it?
NARS Pro-Prime Smudge Proof Eyeshadow Base changes everything! It really does what it says on the proverbial tin and makes eyeshadow last throughout the day and well into the night. It also intensifies the colour of the makeup, making it bolder and pop more.
It comes in a tube with a doe-foot applicator. I never use it straight on my lids but put some on the back of my hand and then apply it all over my eyelids and occasionally under the eye as well.
I cannot think of any cons at all, except for the price point (mainly here in Japan) and perhaps the packaging, as I wonder how I’ll scrape out every last drop of product when I get to the end! (An Urban Decay primer potion I would totally take scissors to.) Also, when it is shiny and new it is just gorgeous, but we all know the NARS blessing is also a curse as the rubberised material of the lid attracts fingerprints, dust, and any residue of glitter or powder makeup that might be floating around in your makeup bag, like a MOFO.
This would be a great product to buy to accompany an eyeshadow palette if you are gifting makeup to a special makeup junkie in your life. This and a NARS Duo Eyeshadow or a NARS Dual-Intensity eye shadow would be a great gift or stocking-filler. Adding a mascara into the mix would make a great set as well.
If you have any tips and tricks for making your eyeshadow not crease, I would love to hear them!
