Avene Skin Recovery Cream

Soothe and Protect with Avene

Dearest Beauty Addicts,

If you struggle with sensitive, reactive skin that is also prone to breakouts, know that I feel your pain. Also, it really sucks not to be able to use all of the products that the entire beauty blogosphere is raving about.

It is really difficult to find products that are suitable for your skin and won’t aggravate it, so when you find those precious gems, you don’t want to let them go. That’s when backups and backups of backups start happening. Totally normal behaviour right? Who’s with me?

I decided to get the Avene Skin Recovery Cream for hypersensitive and irritable skin as I wanted a bit of a change from my beloved Toleriane by La Roche-Posay. This thermal water based cream is also hypoallergenic and non-comedogenic, so I had a good feeling about it. French pharmacy brands are usually winners no matter what, anyway – I’m a fan.

Perfect for Sensitive and Reactive Skin

On the back of the box it claims to contain 0% alcohol, 0% fragrance, and 0% preservatives, and that is good with me.

The cap seals the tube extra tightly, and the opening is unique – I’ve never seen that kind before. It contains a middle bit that pops up just when you are squeezing it to get some product out, but lies flat again when you are done. At the beginning I found this weird and fiddly, but now I think it’s actually a great way to maintain the integrity of the product inside. No nasties from the surrounding air/environment can get in.

Moving on to the cream itself – I love it.

It is a beautiful consistency, and works great for my sensitive skin. You can layer it on as much or as little as you want and need, depending on the season and the moisture level of the air around you. It also doesn’t cause breakouts – hooray!

It is definitely my new go-to face cream.

Of course I am super sad that I can’t try out all the exciting new products that are always coming out, but this works so well I don’t really have to stray from it.

I can’t praise the soothing aspect of this cream enough, really.

Avene Saves the Day (and my face)

I used a DIY face pack the other day – honey and cinnamon – for blemishes. Let me tell you, if your skin is anything like mine, DON’T DO IT!

It ended up heating my skin, and felt almost like a burning sensation, and just left my skin red, raw, and irritated. Not good. (Stay away from lemon juice in DIY face masks too by the way!) I really wonder what possessed me to try that knowing my skin type, but oh well, you live and learn.

So I immediately washed it all off with a face cleanser, made sure it was all gone, and applied a thick layer of my Avene cream, and went to bed hoping my skin would be back to normal in the morning. And it was.

I can’t recommend trying this cream out enough.

It’s true that there are a ton of cheaper creams on the market, but when you have skin that is hypersensitive, reactive, and irritable that it also prone to breakouts, your options are pretty limited. That is why I am going to stick to this one for a long time to come.

If you have a skin type similar to mine, I’d love to know what products you use to manage it. And if you are also an Avene fan, I would love to hear about your cult beauty products from the brand.

Have a beautiful day everyone.

Chuuu xoxo
