Hada Labo Super Hyaluronic Acid Moisturising Lotion

The Hada Labo brand of moisturising lotion is super popular here in Japan, and two well-loved celebrities have recently been fronting the advertising campaigns – solo artists/idols Yamashita Tomohisa (aka Yamapi) and Maeda Atsuko (ex-AKB48). Yamapi is really quite handsome, and he has the most gorgeous, clear skin ever, even though he often looks like he could do with a proper night’s sleep – all the fangirls probably keep him up at night!

It’s a bit depressing that he’s prettier than I ever will be, but hey ho when has life ever been fair?

I was running out of my Shu Uemura lotion, and was looking for a cheaper alternative that wouldn’t make me break out or irritate my skin, and I decided on this. I ended up with the orange label version because it was all they had left at the drugstore, but there is also a green label type that is supposed to produce a smoothing effect. I have loved my experience with this particular one, but I wouldn’t mind trying Hada Labo’s ES range designed specifically for sensitive skin.

This lotion is really lovely, and at a quarter of the price of Shu Uemura’s cheapest version, I can sense that it will be an unending love affair for as long as I live in this part of the world.

The packaging is also simple, and I like the plastic bottle with the flip-top cap as it’s convenient for travelling and you don’t have to worry about it breaking or spilling everywhere.

The product itself is colourless and has no scent. It is a little thicker than other lotions perhaps, definitely thicker than other lotions I’ve used. I’ve found it best to start with a little and build up rather than pour a lot into the palm of your hand. I often find that I have enough to take all the way down my neck. It seems really moist for a while, but if you wait for a little bit you can then follow up with moisturiser. In the hot, humid summer this alone might be enough for me with my skin type, but winters in Japan are ridiculously dry, so at the moment I always have to follow up with a moisturiser of some sort.

I would definitely recommend this product to anyone, and will definitely be sticking to this brand for a long time to come. Good quality and affordable (if you live in Asia at least) – what more could you want?

Happy New Year beautiful people! I hope the year of the sheep brings you all of the love, happiness and success you deserve.

Chuuu xoxo
