Häagen-Dazs Japonais – Vanilla and Kinako Kuromitsu

This is the second Japonais flavour that Häagen-Dazs Japan have released to date. I previously reviewed the first Häagen-Dazs Japonais last year which featured green tea ice cream and red bean paste.

Originally, I wasn’t too enthralled by the idea of this second version, but the fact that it has kinako in it won me round in the end. I’m not a big fan of kuromitsu (black honey) but kinako (roasted soybean flour) I can shovel into my mouth like there’s no tomorrow – love the stuff.

The thin film of kuromitsu sauce on the top of the ice cream was subtle enough that I didn’t mind it, and underneath was a layer of vanilla ice cream, infused with kinako powder (which makes it kinako ice cream I suppose) and some gorgeous azuki bean filling at the very bottom.

It really is a gorgeous ice cream and if you get the chance, I really recommend it, provided you like the flavours.

Enjoy your day beautiful people! Love you all to bits!

Chuuu xoxo

P.S – There are lots of food porn photos in this post. I would apologise, but somehow I really don’t think you’ll mind!

  1. this brand is so clever .having the taste based on popular flavor in a country is the best marketing idea. Ur experience about living in Japan is interesting

  2. Hmm… that’s a cool a combination. I love seeing all of the treats and ice cream flavors you get. It’s a lot of fun. Plus, should I ever visit Japan, I’ll know exactly what to try!

    • And the awesome thing is it’s different every season 😀 I was just in the convini today and all of the autumn sweet potato flavours are out. It’s still 35 degrees celsius outside, autumn is not even nearly here! They jump the gun earlier and earlier every year, sigh. One day Christmas will be in April, lol.

  3. The foodporn is greatly appreciated.

Kinako sounds so weird… Like, roasted soybean flour? But I trust you it’s awesome : ) (btw how do you eat it? I mean, when it’s not in ice cream?)
And OF COURSE the put azuko beans in there…

I’m so craving Haagen Dazs now… Curse you and your witchy foodporn ways!

    Muah : )

  4. Aaaaaand I had to go and buy me some. I snapped a pic, so I had proof and I tagged you on Insta – I felt like it’s all your fault I had to go to morrisons in my sweats and feel like a homeless person, but just NEEDED the ice cream : P
Jk, loving the Oreo HaagenDazs ; )

  5. Hey, a post I can sink my teeth into!

If you like kinako, be on the lookout for kinako kakigori – very yum.

The container makes my smile: Fake Dutch, French, and Japanese all on the same label. 🙂
