Häagen-Dazs Japonais

The latest seasonal offering from Häagen-Dazs Japan is this visually stunning green tea and red bean number.

It is smothered with kuromitsu, a Japanese sugar syrup made from unrefined black sugar grown in Okinawa, and has a layer of sweet red bean paste sandwiched between green tea ice cream and good old vanilla ice cream at the very bottom. Beautiful!

While I don’t love kuromitsu (I much prefer kinako as a topping for dango), it was a lovely dessert, and not in the least bit disappointing. The harmony of the flavours was spot on – green tea and red beans is a ubiquitous pairing here in Japan, and may well be the cookies and cream of the East.

Well done Häagen-Dazs!

I hope you’re drooling by the end of this!

Chuuu xoxo
