If you have sensitive skin, I know you feel my pain. Redness, tightness, splotchy, uneven skin tone, reacting to the elements, and, no matter how much moisturiser you’ve slathered on before bed, always parched the next day when you wake up.
If this is you, French pharmacie brands are your friend, your BFF even.
La Roche-Posay, Avene, Ducray, and Bioderma products have been a cosmetic staple of mine for years now, and I can’t recommend them enough.
My Holy Grail product of the bunch however, has got to be UVIDEA XL melt-in cream. Produced by La Roche-Posay specifically for their Asian consumers, it is a marvellous product. Having major sun protection factor, SPF 50 PA+++ by the Japanese rating system (and UVA ultra PPD 18 by the European rating system) it also contains, like all of La Roche Posay’s products, the thermal water they are so famous for. Also, both regular white cream and tinted versions exist.
Those of you with oily or very oily skin may find it leaves your skin too shiny, but for my eternally dehydrated skin, I find it leaves a nice dewy glow that can be countered with a matte foundation and light dusting of powder.
A big plus for me is that it offers the sun protection without the smell. You know what I mean, that suncreeny smell that sunscreen has. I really do not like it. But UVIDEA XL does not smell like that at all. Big win!
It’s simply perfect under makeup for those days at the office.
If you’re heading out for more intense sun exposure and feel like you need some more hardcore protection, their ANTHELIOS XL stick sunscreen is wonderful too.
I must add here that neither of these products has ever irritated or reacted with my highly volatile skin.
I would never dream of leaving my humble home without this on my face (well, unless it’s night time or an emergency convenience store run with the full intention of going back to bed as soon as I return home).
A final word – everyone’s skin is different, and you never know how it will react to any product (a lesson that have learned the long and hard way), but I can say that this has been a godsend to me and my moisture-deprived skin.
